Volume Calculator

The volume calculator computes three-dimensional volume for a cube, rectangular prism, cylinder, cone, or sphere. It reports cubic units and an approximate liter conversion when the input dimensions are understood as centimeters.

How to use this calculator

Use side A for a cube; A, B, and height for a rectangular prism; radius A and height for a cylinder or cone; and radius A for a sphere. Keep every dimension in the same unit before calculating.

Formula & calculation method

Cube A³; prism ABH; cylinder πA²H; cone πA²H/3; sphere 4πA³/3

The calculator applies the solid's standard formula. The displayed cubic result follows your input unit. An additional liter result assumes all inputs are centimeters, because 1,000 cubic centimeters equal one liter.

Worked example

A cylinder with radius 10 and height 8 has volume 800π, approximately 2,513.274 cubic units. A cone with the same radius and height has exactly one-third of that volume.

Why this is useful

A single tool handles common solids while retaining the formula and dimension roles. The optional liter interpretation is useful for containers when measurements are in centimeters.

Limitations to keep in mind

The liter conversion is valid only for centimeter inputs. For irregular objects, hollow containers, wall thickness, or shapes with slanted heights, confirm the correct geometric dimensions before relying on the result.

Frequently asked questions

When is the liter result valid?

Only when all dimensions are entered in centimeters. If you use meters or inches, use the cubic-unit result and convert it separately.

Does a cone use vertical height?

Yes. Use perpendicular height from the base to the apex, not the slant height.

Should a sphere use diameter?

No. Enter its radius. Divide the diameter by two if that is the measurement you have.
